1. The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 – £2,236,577 – £23,317,345
2D £2,236,577 total £19,536,406 – 3D took £93,963 total £3,780,939
Down 50.5% in its third weekend compared with 55% for Mockingjay Part 1 last year holding on to top spot for longer than any previous Hunger Games film and next week will likely become the first film this year to top the box office for 4 weeks due to a lack of new releases.
After three weeks Mockingjay Part 1 took £25.2m (-7.5%) and Catching Fire £26.26m (-11.2%) but the difference is more due to Mockingjay Part 2 being released in 3D.
Will likely hold better this weekend but then suffer badly like all other older releases against The Force Awakens following weekend with only Sisters likely to hold its ground with it due to having a 9 day opening weekend.
2. The Good Dinosaur – £1,698,052 – total £5,121,542
2D took £2,529,015 – total £4,392,524 – 3D took £169,037 – total £729,019
Dropping 41.7% in its second weekend will be reliant on weekend screenings for the next two weeks until school holidays begin until then it’s hard to compare its performance with other Pixar releases.
Snoopy and Charlie Brown the Peanut Movie had its first weekend of previews likely affected The Good Dinosaurs box office
Paddington’s second weekend last year took £3.78m.
3. Spectre – £1,234,311 – total £90,472,361
2D took £1,034,428 total £83,008,667 – IMAX £199,487 – total £7,463,299
Down 43.1% in its sixth weekend at the same time Skyfall took £2.27m taking £93.79m.
It is only £4m away from beating Avatar but even though with no major releases this weekend will likely drop similar with the arrival of The Force Awakens in 10 days’ will then suffer much bigger declines looking many screens as well as all of its IMAX screens.
Someone on Reddit compared SPECTRE with Mission Impossible Rogue Nation pointing out the many similarities the plots had which is what It thought watching it. But as Rogue Nation felt like a remake of Casino Royale who was copying who?
The SPECTRE title was a victory for the Queen’s English over the US variation of er has been used in American spelling since 1940’s. The title SPECTRE stood for Special Executive for Terrorism, Revolution and Espionage in previous James Bond films but in SPECTRE was no suggestion that name is an acronym.
4. Bridge of Spies – £1,081,587 – total £3,888,513
Holding well down 35.4% in its second week after performing well Mon-Thurs thanks to strong word of mouth after the positive reviews. Should hold well in the coming weeks even with the arrival of The Force Awakens.
Steven Spielberg’s last film Lincoln dropped 17% in its second weekend in January 2013 while Tom Hanks Saving Mr Banks dropped 31% in December 2013 and Captain Phillips dropped 30% in October 2013.
Steven Spielberg’s next is the eagerly awaited adaption of Roald Dahl’s The BFG while Tom Hanks is back as Robert Langdon in the third Da Vinci Code Inferno and Sully directed by Clint Eastwood Sullenberger biopic likely to released next Christmas and could see him get another Best Actor Nomination his first since Castaway in 2001.
5. Christmas with the Coopers – £682,736 – NE
Of the three Christmas related films surprisingly had the biggest opening not that taking £524,002 for the weekend is at all impressive (taking £158,734 from previews); only if you compare it to 2005’s The Family Stone which opened with £247,515.

The Night Before – Sony – £272,000 – Opening worse than The Interview (£281,916) earlier this year after receiving far better reviews. But Sony Pictures still seem to stick with Seth Rogen with these films as they used to with Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider but do wonder for how much longer.
